Okay, so, enough of myself. I would like to write about an opinion of mine.
Anyways, since I went to see Catching Fire today, it's pretty obvious that I went to the one and only movie theater here in Samarinda, the one in SCP. As I have stated in my previous post, there are lots of different kinds of "cool people" that go there to be... cool, or maybe to get some entertainment like me. In the middle of that, I also saw something that rather bothered me.
When got into McDonald's with Audrey, I saw a couple of youngsters, probably 5 years below me (aka ten year-olds), dressing up like they're probably already in high school. The boys, wearing their snazzy wristwatches and staring along at their BlackBerry screen while smiling to their selves while the girls, wore skinny jeans, hair let down and walked as if they are older than they are.
I guess "bothered" isn't really the best word to describe the way that I feel when I saw those kids, I am not really that older than them to have a privilege to think that they don't act their age. Maybe I am also not acting like I am my age. But they really don't... and I'm very worried, sad... about how the future will be.
I'm scared to think that they have been brainwashed by seeing too many stuff on TV and on the internet. When I was their age... sure, love sprouted a little, but we didn't know any much of it, so it just got by with friendship and laughter. Technology didn't really played a part in communication in my days of elementary school, but we did play with game operators like Gameboy, Nintendos, etc.

Ah, yes. Those were the days. (Source: Google) |
What they have been seeing on TV is surely nonsense. I don't mean to be rude, but I've seen enough of Indonesian soap operas on TV, or even other TV shows that's Indonesian made. Again, I don't mean to be rude or being un-nationalistic, but most of them isn't really entertaining to me, and it doesn't really show good quality. It's really meaningless and weird. Sure, it's for entertainment, but there must be another way to entertain people other than show up stuff that never really portrays a legit life.
These days, I've been seeing mini skirts that are too mini, boys and girls falling in love, heartbreaks, styrofoam-related comedy, teenage dramas with school uniforms that are even to flashy to be school uniforms, people in soap operas fighting because of nonsense, pink wigged youngsters singing about love and many other things that don't even show a flash of hope for this country.
Indonesia, oh, Indonesia. I'm sorry if you think all I can do is complain, but right now I think I'm making a statement for this country that I love. I know that we can all develop a style that flashes INDONESIA. All I've seen are adaptations of foreign stuff, yes, we are a shaping of what affects us, but does that mean that we cannot have our own styles of doing so? Of course not.
In the future, I will be a part of a change for Indonesia. Change comes from ourselves. Change comes from you.
