SCP

SCP (short for Samarinda Central Plaza) is one of the few malls that we have here in Samarinda. Compared to the metropolitan or big cities of Indonesia (I don't wanna go too far in comparison), Samarinda doesn't have as many malls. But I'm grateful, though. There are smaller cities in Kalimantan where they don't have any malls.

There's only one thing that I really like about this mall. This mall is the only mall in Samarinda that has a cinema aka a movie theater in it. Back then, the movie theater here really sucked. It lacked good movies and it didn't update very much (hey that kinda rhymes!). But now the theater has somewhat upgraded and well... it's not that bad! It's enough for me.

Maybe because SCP is the only mall that has a movie theater, many different kinds of "anak-anak gaul" (Indonesian for "cool kids", or... "cool people"? People that consider themselves cool, that's for sure) come here and hang out with their pals. Or maybe... go on a date with their "special someone"? I guess so.

When I first moved here to Samarinda, things were pretty different. Back then, I noticed how people here are kind of late on trends that occur worldwide. I don't mean to say that they're not updated, but that's what I feel. I feel that the residents of Balikpapan are more gaul (stylish, updated, etc) than the people here in Samarinda. I think the reason why is because Balikpapan has an international airport, while we don't. But time after time, that begun to change. These days, Samarindians (lol, that's what I call them) dress more stylishly, and if you don't hold a new piece of the iProducts (haha), ya ain't kewl enuff.

Going to SCP used to really annoy me, because there, I see snobbish people who dress to show off, not to express. I was like, "Hey, I thought I was at the mall, not at a freaking runway!" But I don't feel like that anymore. Maybe because back then, I was still too much of a nerd who wasn't such an extrovert as I am today. Now, it entertains me to see people dressing up to show off, holding their gadgets, taking their selfies everywhere and posting it to Instagram. It's fun. I guess maybe it could be a teeny bit annoying, but I find it fun, now. Seeing couples holding hands... imagining the result of their photos on their Instagram account. Boy, I hope they feel cool already.

No, I don't mean to bring people down. It's just that... I don't know, it's funny and it's entertaining to see. Nowadays it's really easy to differentiate between typical people and extraordinary people. I hope, I am one of the extraordinaries (amen).

So now that I find going to SCP fun, maybe I should do it more often. Yknow, getting the insights of what is trending between the gaul people of Samarinda... looking around. You never know what unique thing you might find, just lurking around the corner! :)
